ICON 3

ICON FAN ART BY EMMETT

TOPIC: Black Superheroes (or Heroes) How old were you when you started watching or reading stories featuring a Black Hero/Superhero? Why did you find them appealing? Were you around when Black owned Comics were introducing NEW heroes outside of Marvel and DC? Were the stories written by African Americans more appealing than those characters by other companies? How did the artwork measure up in comparison to other big name illustrators? What is you favorite character of any ethnicity? Can you name your favorite Black Woman character? Do you have any issues with the word “Black” being attached to the Heroes’ Name? If you create characters, and want to talk about?

So I grew up watching TV in the ’60s and the closest I saw at the time to a hero of color was Tonto on the Lone Ranger series/serial. Ad the next live action was Eartha Kitt as Catwoman on Batman. And that was abot it. My Mom used to protest in DC, and would cook meals for the Black Panthers at our house, one of them actually had a Panther comic, and let me see it….and I was hooked!

After that, as many cartoons as I watched, It was like…”Where Are We?” I saw a Disney toon “The Jungle Book” dude was brown, at least, but for some reason, the more I saw what was presented, the more I wanted to see something closer to my own ‘hood, and people in it. I saw the Panther movie, and I was like, why couldn’t have had this before? Ditto Black Lightning…it was cool, goofy and deep at the same time, with music, I could relate to.

Let me be honest,,,it just sounds Cooler, when you add “Black”…but it’s not necessary, it kinda seems to me like a “Selling Point”…maybe even a misguided way to appeal to Black readers???

Also, I did an interview with co-creator of Black Lightning, the Artist Trevor Von Eeden, who…held nothing back, when describing his working environment at DC, being the only or one of few Artists.

OK, any time you have anything, I’ll check back, maybe cut off responses by end of the week, and if have Graphic content, send by 15th.

dpartlow2

Good evening gentlemen! Like Emmett I’m a  ‘60s kid first heroes were recognized in the late ‘60s early ‘70s.

undergroundartfactory

My brother, that’s wonderful information and insight. I’ll work on my response and get back to you soon 🙏🏽

OK Don, this is EMMETT…looking forward to it!

dpartlow2

My first ethnic hero I related to was The Brown Hornet from Fat Albert because prior to that

Yes he was cool! Also, for a goofy show, Batman, had the most diversity as Bruce Lee also was seen by me for the first time.

dpartlow2

Ertha Kitt was so light on television by the time i learned she was African American like me she was replaced by Julie Newmar.

I remember all those bullet-bra dolls fondly.

dpartlow2

Kato (portrayed by Bruce Lee) was also my first diverse exposure to a hero who was cool and an actual hero not just comic relief for the main character.

That was also a time when we had actual real life Heroes, Like ALI, and other Sports Legends

EMMETT

It’s funny as kids, we saw one episode of The Green Hornet, and after being exposed to Lee..we immediately called it KATO and the Green Hornet!

Wish they had spent more money of better lighting, I still watch it.

Was good to see diversity on Star Trek

dpartlow2

Also let’s not forget the Muhammad Ali cartoon…. that probably had the biggest effect on me as a youngster because he was a hero on a cartoon who we saw beating people in a boxing ring.

The creation of the Panther and his backstory was genius, it’s like superman/batman in ways, He’s from another land, like Superman, but has more money than Batman, he might have been the first Billinaire/Rillionaire in comics

Trillionaire

EMMETT

Yes, I liked it it, and the Harlem Globetrotter toon

Also the Fat Albert Show was up there as Live Action and cartoon mix/fusion…a lot tried, but it was excellent for its day

I think it was you Don, I was telling, that the closest Marvel Heroes on TV were to people of color, were the Hulk and the Thing who were powerful…but okay, we would need a psychologist here, When the Caucasian guy CHANGES to a being of Color, he becomes a Monster, with super-strength…I mean…it just seemed like WE couldn’t have it all…..I remember buying Spidey comics, cause at some point, and good for Marvel at least you would see a decent representation in the form of Robbie Robeson…at the Daily Bugle..and he would give Peter Parker advice.

dpartlow2

Yes we discussed this and the issue with the color transformation was that people of color had no control and were not refined qe had raw power and minimal mental capacity

OK off to do other things, this feels like we are on the right track!

mlakes53

what’s up guys. Having fun reading this thread.

(t feels good, it feels Right! Marshall

dpartlow2

Much like our athletes of modern day are portrayed…great at throwing footballs and shooting balls in hoops but poor role models, fathers, and mates.

So I was working 2 jobs and totalling missed the Milestone Comics premier, but loved the Art, even though not up on backstories

But did catch up, on some storylines.

mlakes53

Bruce Lee was big for me and Ali. He had a cartoon and he fought Superman in the comics.

Yes Lee, big influence

and it’s like, mostly all people of color as kids remebered that moment he blew or mnds,

dpartlow2

Why was America shocked as a society by Ali there were other great fighters he wasn’t the first intelligent fighter he was the first to open his mouth and make it known.

I kid you not, my boss was Chinese, and kept his kid away from all things Martial Arts, LOL, wanted him to be a business man or DR.

I introduced him to Lee on Youtube! when he strayed over to get me to draw him Batman for the umpteenth time

Pop! Pop! Do you know Bruce Lee?!

LOL

Don, It just seems like the powers that be, want to sterotype athletes as …Big and Dumb…throw race in and it just gets uglier, Kapernick”

BIG GUYS AREN’T SPPOSED TO THINK

mlakes53

Brother Man was the first black indie comic that I ever heard of. I was part of the ‘90’s indie comics explosion as part of Ania. I did concept design for Purge and Power knights, plus a ton of other stuff that never made it to print.

oH THE TIMING IS PERFECT HERE, CAUSE, THE cHARACTER doc savage IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE

hE predates batman and Superman, his appearance is that of a person of color

called the man of Bronze, but i kinda think that was close enough to brown to have people go for Superman, who’s name was also CLARK

mlakes53

Doc Savage has a lot of race issues. Lol

I heard the kind of print copies produced by “other Black comic Publishers, they succeeded beyond any before.

dpartlow2

Wasn’t Doc Savage the Capt America prototype?….lol!

I also heard that every Black owned comic piblishers n the early days were DENIED PAPER to print on to keep kids from being expoed to Super negros

Doc ,…In my opinion is the prototype for most of the popular ones.

dpartlow2

Wow…super negros

mlakes53

Lion Man of All negro Comics.

He never could get a second issue printed.

Look,, The Rock has been rumored to play him, for at least 5 years….nobody else resembles that character more…yet….Black Adam is in theatres…I could care less

There was a 1970s Doc Savage film, and the actor was good, but it was so clear that they could stop the film from being made, but they could sabotage it, it was silly, and unworthy to be released. It to ruin future efforts?

Yes, All Negro Comics, I need to re-read it…but yeah…deliberately tried to keep competition out of the picture, race-wise.

I think Milestone was bought, and keep hearing rumors of it coming out again….But those characters should be on TV. You see it took 50 years to get the Panther to film

And the blockbuster thing happens, when you are being suppressed, and suddenly people get to see what they have been missing

I gotta run now, but any Graphics, Fan Art …WELCOME!

dpartlow2

I agree about TV or at least a streaming service. However, remember it’s always money first and the powers that be don’t acknowledge what people are missing until they realize the revelation will provide profit a financial windfall.

It’s funny though Luke Cage: Power Man…is somewhat stereotypical is the speech/lines, but I bought it for the Art alone….he proves you don’t have to throw the “Black” in there….

dpartlow2

I agree but his location and storylines made it clear that he was black.

EMMETT

Analogy….it’s like being in a Segregated Restaurant, and if the wait staff admits they SEE you, they will have to Serve you. So they ignore us for as long as they can

dpartlow2

Until there’s a financial need that makes them realize all of our money is green no matter the color of our skin.

Yes, and at all times, you knew no person of color was Writing him. I loved the Netflix version, but he was very toned down, would have liked to see him…evolve into a more chill hero.

Don

Yes

EMMETT

Also remember Static Shock character, that grew/spun out of the Black Comics to “mainsream” I watched it, and was thrilled that he was a hero….period.

mlakes53

Yep

EMMETT

My favorite on screen hero is The Falcon….and Nick Fury…those coulda shoulda been TV spin offs…..for some reason the paired him with the Winter Soldier….he coulld stand on his own….I hated the deliberate “Kato” factor they added to him where he just serves Cap…has no Personal Identity, it was weird.

dpartlow2

Gotta run for a few still working but I will send answers to original questions shortly and follow up with the interesting discussion.

OK TTYL

i’m out too

October 31, 2022 8:05 pm

Back to Ali-I know other fighters had good speaking ability, like Sugar ay Robinson, and created businesses. But when we are talking Television, what MADE ALI different was the Quality of the Interviewer, who recognized Ali had a brain, and it was like listening to two people who had genuine respect for the other, and people wanted more.

(Howard Cossell)

The more they talked the more was learned, and I think , everybody else followed suit

journalism-wise

dpartlow2

The problem was once Ali started talking the people of power tried to shut him up. I believe it was simply because they didn’t know how to market him and make him profitable. If they figured that out he would not have been seen as an outcast or a rebel regardless of his religious beliefs

True….and part of marketing is Known factors, and selling you as ok..(A good Negro…loves his country…actual meaning…HE daes not question his country or it’s military agenda) Still athletes enduring this. But nobody in charge of the Boxing commission was going to let Muslims or any other religion interfere with the previous history of it

dpartlow2

Look what Marvel did once Black Panther made a billons dollars…we got Miles Morales into the spiderverse, Shang-Chi,

I still need to watch Shang Chi, I read the comic, and IronFist was great writing…disappointed in the Netflix Danny Rand.

Yes, its when the writing is about the story and no extra thinking to re-write what a Black hero would do….

dpartlow2

Eternals, Ms.Marvel….As Aaron and I discussed they made movies of B characters for the money grab.

Gottaa say, extremely great actors, came together and decided to give every scene their all.

dpartlow2

Absolutely no knock on the actors. Luke Cage had so much potential and as a people I think we had high hopes, it just wasn’t fully developed.

Ms. Marvel….it was one for the ladies…I found no real purpose for Nick Fury in it…he was comic relief….the Action was top notch, but it felt it was incohesive….something was missing, character seemed to be overcompensating….but like the actress….under-directed I felt.

dpartlow2

My favorite African American character is Bishop of the X-Men. He was no nonsense, stood on his morals, and remained a strong character.

I really don’t like drastic changing of the costumes….Yes, Cage “Fit in” to his environment, but point for that Hero was standing out in his pimpy gold shirt, I ran out and got one. LOL…wore it with some Black Bellbottom-flairs

dpartlow2

Luke Cage was cool for his era. They turned the ‘70s look into a costume and it worked.

OK my favorite is Storm, everybody pretty much draws her well…I just don’t like that they put her in charge of a bunch of kids/youth…Put Jean Grey in charge of the kids…for once. But put a Black woman in a film, with kids/youth and they are designated the Mother-role.

dpartlow2

Right she was the nanny

EMMETT

And Cage is the Stud (in the Netflix offering)

dpartlow2

Who took care of the rich people mutant kids because the poor mutants kids were in the sewers with Callisto.

It’s like the have or I haven’t seen a backstory for The Falcon…Rhodey Rhodes either…they just like man-servants to Ironman/Cap …the chauffeur has more story.

Ahhh…

So like…these hero stories still have old-school, updated hant ups, they wont give up on their own..

dpartlow2

And won’t happen until its financially worth the change.

I gotta find time to read more comics from ’90’s on.

Well, I see patterns…..if they can figure out where diversity will profit, they use the Tabloid tactic of Catch and Kill…to own and suppress content not promoting the norm/accepted.

dpartlow2

Here’s something other than Black Widow what other none ethnic character has black in the name?

So what needs to happen is a Distribution and Manufacturing PLAN to by pass them, once the know they are out of the loop and will not be allowed to corrupt a new thing

dpartlow2

Exactly as much as they like the residuals from Black Panther their will never be another one.

They have to Try and Fail…to excuse dumping a sure winner….already see the signs.

dpartlow2

Exactly!!! Whats happening in the music industry needs to take place and it seems like it would be easier with proprietary and distribution rights.

They have been on a campaign to discredit the Actress, since macho man Cheadle gave her grief over personal opinions

dpartlow2

Black publishers, distributors, printing…the whole nine we have the talent the work Aaron

who the F asks his permission to be an outspoken Black Girl, ? And would he DARE tell any white lady how Amerian they are in his eyes, ?

dpartlow2

Not at all!!!!

Yes. Agree to all that

He is a step and fetch it….he basically was hired because Terrance Howad toered over Robert Downey JR.

who recommended him for the gig.

That’s how you repay a friend that put millions in your bank account.

So yes, Chedle is somebody’s talking point as Herschell Walker is for others.

new word…Bl-uppet

LOL, Black Puppet

dpartlow2

Like i was saying the work Aaron does should be published. I created 5 african american heroes just for my grandson and his friends.

Ventriloquist dummy

I can publish…just thinking, I would be focused on a Strip Format…to draw in readership.

dpartlow2

It’s like we’ll give you a job if you tow the line

I personally enjoyed Spidey in strip form when John Romita Sr. was doing them..read somethng everydy

I am sure he would offer to do it for free.

He puts off nice-guy vibes like that.

OK Don, I gotta do a nap. LOL working late tonight.

I can tell you i’m amazed,,,,,the word count is in the 2k range, so my miimum is about met, but this is day one, and will need to edit down for space, depending on how much more, thanks, this is already great result!

we can go as high as 5k, my limit to date, and edit with pics. Link to sites online if you have or your IG

TTYL

dpartlow2

I agree our youth with their video games are primed for black heroes and black content.

I will get back to the questions…

Storm is possibly the unanimous favorite heroine of color…and black bolt is the only non ethnic male hero I can think of that has black im his name.

Other than T’Challa has there been any other affluent male ethnic hero. Mr Terrific is know for his brilliance but its also know that he is the 3rd smartest person…behind Bruce Wayne and lex luthor…why can’t he be the smartest..its as if we gave to accept ok we gave you a smart hero ..just not the smartest hero….Mr terrific would be a great character to develop into a video game for back youth or create a game using a league of black heroesbthat are relatable to black yourh.using all of the proven attributes for a successful gaming title is the belief it won’t sell? There have been a ton of gaming titles that were unsuccessful however with the right name behind it a black hero gaming title will move.

Have good evening gentlemen!

Thanks!

emmettmagazine named the group Black Superheroes

Did anybody watch the GHOST RIDER tv show?. It was very well done…recast with Latino actor and just disappeared….Agents of SHIELD.. Good at first…then…too much Fitz….Evil Fitz…back and forth with this boring dude…

dpartlow2

I didn’t know a Ghost Rider TV show existed…watched a little Agents of Shield and lost interest. I have a question will Black Adam’s cinematic success be attributed to African American actors and their roles in the movie or The Rock’s popularity?

I would say Black Adam is a mystery to me (that I do not care to solve) ….and I’m…almost 60….

So fans of The Rock for sure!

Ghost Rider spun out from Agents of Shield.. Was supposed to become series…then …didn’t

dpartlow2

..and once a movie makes a financial impact other studios seem to follow suit do you think DC will release a Vixen movie based on Black Panther success. They have already released an animated movie that’s streaming….possibly a tester for popularity.

The character was awesome…of what I saw.. Cartoon was better than the live action on CW.

But live version just had her sleeping with all the White guys. Also it creeped me out that every week…Hawkgirl and Iris West from the Flash were being stabbed or impaled for some twisted reason…weekly.

dpartlow2

Lol!!!! I have to do some research didn’t know there was a live action show. I really like the character.

EMMETT

Arrow was my fav DC. Supergirl was good at first…then bad scrips

CW

Also the Smallville on CW…but again…went downhill in story quality.

dpartlow2

My favorite DC show was Gotham…but I started going to campy and downhill also.

Yes.

dpartlow2

I was hooked on Gotham in the beginning…the storyline were great and unpredictable.

It’s like too many shows…the characters don’t merit a weekly…they should try bi-monthly…or once a month…and do better episodes.

dpartlow2

I still feel Luke Cage has some life left if given to the correct writers

There were non-comic fans watching Luke Cage in the beginning which tells you the market is there.

EMMETT

So okay…I’m building a channel.. So designate a time slot…then alternate the heroes…

Yes…and Daredevil was excellent.. It’s just creepy the way the violence kept upping…but…that produ tion. Shoukd have went to bigscreen with same actors second season….like Star Trek. Wasted olportunity

As soon as Kingpin was cast….movies should have happened

dpartlow2

Yes. I agree!

Rosario Dawson Could have been a spin off easily.

A lot of money could have been made…the lead actor. Best fight scenes ever…Electra.. Is was beyond

dpartlow2

Jessica Jones was good…so maybe its writers and African American heroes present even more of a challenge.

EMMETT

Even biz-wis…more intelligent to transition a kickass cast (pun intended) to big-screen and save the bucks for production quality to insure cementing its success.

dpartlow2

Its like writing for diverse heroes expose their creative short comings even more.

Good talk…TTY soon….yes is like lets fo a diverse or black hero to cash in on a trend…then …it succeeds..uh oh…ehat next?

dpartlow2

Lol!!! Deadpool was a great movie and the character portrayal on the big screen and box office proved stick with the comics and it works.

Deadpool in XMen movies with no mouth was horrible.

Keep in mind…you need diversity Behind the Scenes…that I believe is the real explaination for inconsistancies….they dont want to share power…or profits

dpartlow2

Exactly! They’ll keep all of millions before sharing a billion. Besides if we allow diversity behind the cameras they risk creating too may Jordan Peele’s and that revelation exposes a short coming.

Yes. Talk soon!

dpartlow2

Sounds good

November 1, 2022 2:16 pm

So good Female hero….

Storm

Jean Grey, Black Widow, Black Canary (favorite drawn by Trevor Von Eeden) Batgirl (Still have not seen Bat Woman…never heard of until….5 years ago. She Hulk, Have not seen looks ok…

Costume design for the character sucks. For laughs…I might try some…and some fan art

Valkyrie…could have been a TV show…also Asgarde…

undergroundartfactory

I think I was 8 or so when I gained interest in superheroes. Weren’t to many black superhero’s around back then. Imagining my superpowers would manifest some day. It took me away from the streets of Baltimore. Didn’t know or see much in black owned comics until Milestone comics ( which DC bought out but are making a comeback) I bought everything I could of Milestone, cards, comics, etc… they heroes definitely got my attention because they represented a world that I was familiar with. Art work was good, but not top notch until DC got a hold of them. My favorite all time SH’s are Deadpool, Lobo, Namor, Spawn, Black Panther. Storm and Vixen. I do have an issue with some. I get it with Black Panther… but Black Lightning? Black Vulcan? WWW. WTF is that? Yes I have many OC’s which I’d love to introduce 🙏🏽

EMMETT

Cool, I just literally got fed up about age 16 and started drawing an inking…practicing to be rejected by Marvel and DC, LOL, but I was right to do it as, fam took my books out and showed the to our neighborhood…..they showed them to kids etc…..take away was they 1. Had never seen anything NEW they could relate to or dream of doing ….especially FLying…like FALCON could fly as had wings, but no , wings or cape, guess had to get permission, to have power within…..So I led with that.

Please, as many as we can handle….as one reason for making and publishing things is to establish ownership,Our publications have dates, international interests, ISBN no.s etc. ….

It’s like now, everybody knows what problems are, so time to just SUPPLy, as demand is still there….waiting to bfe seized.

Black Vulcan…Superfriends….If remember…no backstory/Origin…..best thing Marvel did was Introduce you by adding Origin at top,….would look for that if a new comic.. I overlooked Black Lightning….Luke Cage costume blew the lid off the covers!

Spawn I thought was very good…don’t understand criticism, Cartoon…equally good.

(Movie)

ICON, Hardware, Blue Marvel….most appealing….I liked Static shock…but I was too old by time it came out, wish had been earlier. But Milestone work needs to get to SCREENS.

OK…so I will add some sketches, in…and Marvel/DC Fan Art….plus my characters…..

Favorite Comic Artist?

November 1, 2022 6:34 pm

undergroundartfactory

Sam Keith – his etchy, edgy, distorted, elongated style has inspired me for years

dpartlow2

My favorite artist is Darick Robertson & Chad Hurd who does the Archer series. I like the heavy line style and have begun using that in my art

Its easier for me due to multiple sclerosis issues with my hands. My brother Aaron helped me out with that because I gave up but he’s got me back in form and creating again. He inspired me to create 5 OC of my own.

November 2, 2022 11:56 am

EMMETT

Cool, thanks for sharing!

My early inspirations were 1. Disney Artists and all things animated. Then Marvel/ Jack Kirby/John Romita/John Buschema…..I like certain Artist that do certain things, but I kinda patterned myself after these as they seemed to be able to illustrate ANYTHING…versality was always a PROVEN asset…as a child..I was taken to a lICHTENSTEIN EXHIBITION IN dc, AGE 13. AFTER 5 YEARS OF SELLING ORIGINAL ART…FOR the max…$10 a poster….I saw….arguably knock-off Kirby and other concepts….but what registered was the SCALE. I then got my hands on adult art materials and put away my markers and poster paper, traded in for canvas and acrylics, brushes. went from 10 dollar sales to 150 a painting….more than pencilers at comicbook companies at the time. It made me wonder to this day…Why after seeing your work plagerized would you…the original creators seize the MOMENTUM of upping the scale of your work?

I know the only thing keeping you on the level you’re on today is a new concept. I believe/know that once you try NEW things, your mindset will led you above and beyond the limiting thoughts you had and believed were true YESTERDAY. Some like Lichtenstein…PERHAPS were supposed to be catalyst (at least how I see him) he was great,,,maybe not so original but great. Proving “SIZE MATTERS” think bigger, dream bigger.

I am literally seeing people on Soc Med (Social Media) EM-speak…LOL telling would be Artists that (NOW THAT I’VE MADE IT) “SUCCESS and RICHES, shouldn’t be the goal” ???? WTF. I detest Fake Humble B.S. Worse, I hate hearing it from Artists that know better. Are they afraid of competition or are they trying to snuff it out in its crib?

Because we are creatives/Artists, people have a need to conjure up STEREOTYPES about us instead of talking to us. My real purpose in life perhaps, is to get people comfortable talking to us, instead of about us.

dpartlow2

I love it talk to us instead of about us!… funny you would say the because I frequently hear the adjective “weird” as a descriptive term… Aaron and I talk frequently because it’s a safe space for our perceived “weirdness”.

EMMETT

Weird…can be a formula for success if it’s marketed….

I just think…need to be seen by more people who ‘get’ us/art

At least if they are looking they fill find dialogue, so wann eventually do audio version….making tests now, cause really don’t like being ON camera, just Art and voice over

finally found a good recording device…

setting up little system to record live drawing….just focused on the paper

dpartlow2

Sounds interesting

EMMETT

Yeah…has been a struggle…finding/creting the right set up. Trying to capture live drawing…saw Blurs…digital hiccups…but seems like phone tech-is improved…plus working with Cameras too

Would be perfect if could have a mobile set up to film outside with natural light.

So good news we are at 4700 words. 300 words or so or more welcome. But after 2 days…WOW. Words spread to 20 pages in 14 Font Size. Starting to edit it, and add some research Dates for stuff we mentioned to possibly link in Site/online version.

dpartlow2

Are we adding OC artwork?

Yes

EMMETT

Anything you wanna share/talk about.

Pencil Art OKAY as long as can reproduce well.

Ink, Marker, Paint or Digital works great or video of self creating. Have formaats to accomodate everything, Can rip Audio, etc. if just wanna film and I add th adio later.

I just can focus on both for myself. So rather show the work.

dpartlow2

Here’s something I found last night after thinking about our conversation here…

So how many people in positions to make decisions in the comic industry see this as a problem if this is the definition of “liberal”…

The entire idea of comics and heroes is based upon originality and free thinking.

Every artist/creator motivation is creating something new something original.

Create something new but not too new….create Homelander and great character but he’s just and asshole Superman.

Hmm it’s those abominable concepts…”ACCEPT-OPEN -TOLERATE OTHERS THAT SHOWS WHAT THE PROBLEM REALLY IS WITH SLIM

BUT THERE IS A BIT IN THERE…’CAUSE ONE THE COMPANY WILL CHANGE RACE ON A CHARACTER “Knowing IT’S temporary” TO TRY TO GET THE READERSHIP UP.

EMMETT-MAYBE 2 TRAINS OF THOUGHT ARE HAPPENING SIMULTANEOUSLY-THE STAN LEES NEED THE ARTISTS TO BELIEVE THEY ARE FREE TO CREATE ANYTHING THEY WANT-AND THEY CAN AND WILL BE ALLOWED THE FREEDOM TO MAKE THE COMPANY AS RICH AS THEY WANT TO-HAVE OWNERSHIP OF THEIR CREATIVITY AND MARKET IT FOREVER. WAY PAST TIME FOR CREATIVES TO WISE UP HIRE A LAWYER BEFORE SIGNING YOUR LIVES AWAY.

dpartlow2

Do you feel Miles Morales is a money grab?

EMMETT

ALSO BY ‘APPEASING US’ THEY KEEP US FROM WANTING ANYTHING MORE ORIGINAL OR DARE I SAY IT BETTER THAN WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN SELLING US

dpartlow2

I agree….content stops you from getting more. It does stop you from wanting it but it does stop you from pursuing it

EMMETT

I DO….BUT I DON’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT, THE STORY WAS AS GOOD as any Spiderman

YEs I see it as a STALLING TACTIC. Progress WILL happen, they just want to profit until they have to do it ALL THE TIME

pay attention to us I mean

WHen they suppress us, they build the need……someone will fill that need

OK, I see it as kind like junk food…in comparison, you are HUNGRY for representation….you NEED a steak, Veggies etc…. but Hey Here’s a CandyBar to tide you over

dpartlow2

I like Miles Morales and I know younger black males that love it and play the video game…that tells you that there’s a market for it.

EMMETT

So here, I made Superman a Black Guy …you happy now?

dpartlow2

Lol!!!

But he’s never not quite Superman…

He can stop a bus but not a locomotive…

He can leap a tall building in two bounds not a single one….

Well, yes…bottom line, has to be well written. Did enjoy the Live Action Black Lightning….cause guy was approximately my age, was playing music I grew up liking…positive role model, and action…worked for me

EMMETT

Static Shock was a Kid…I was past him in age, but enjoyed seeing its quality.

dpartlow2

Because even at our age…that little kid in us that drew in our notebooks in school… and looked up the sky and imagined flying still exist

EMMETT

And can he drive while a Black Clark Kent… without proving he’s bulletproof?

dpartlow2

That was deep!

EMMETT

Oh yes…The Miles Morales, one had me smiling….complex characters and levels of real world issues. I have seen it 5 times at least, I can’t seem to turn past it.

dpartlow2

It would be interesting to put us in today’s society and see how it would affect our creativity and the fantasy heroes we come up with.

Animation is kinda where I always wanted to be doing…I just went from wanting to be a Disney animator…to wanting to be Disney.

dpartlow2

Imagine a black Disney….

The best thing I remember is the Live/Cartoon mix…it can still work, with all the tech now?

dpartlow2

It would be so much better!

Yes, it’s about running the show….so you can direct attention where needed…

It seems my whole life….was learning I need to get back to what I dreamed at age 8

dpartlow2

Imagine the issues the Brown Hornet would address with the Cosby Kids in today’s world.

EMMETT

We forgot to mention AQUAMAN….well done….also The Hadji Indian character on Jonny Quest was mostly refreshing for being a Smart kid of color.

Meteor Man…..was good enough…but I honestly felt like I was watching something TV worthy….Period.

BLADE excellent!

Hey buddy, what are you asking for? I’m kinda lost in most of the conversation 🤷🏾

Are you producing a black superhero publication?

8:48 PM

It’s November Issue No. 11 of Emmett Magazine, this issue focuses on the Heroes’Superheroes of Color

If have any comic art/Fan Art that fits and want to publish it, can submit it, I sw some of Donald’s…and Marshall’s, and a couple pieces of yours, but gotta check quality of images to see if will work . If small file, can still put on the site under Comics.

I will take photos with a camera and submit the photos thru the email if that will make the file large enough for print tomorrow.

I may start doing comics regularly-I have a lot of stories to launch, the sooner I start, I guess the better. May be easier to just focus on that, but if you all have Strips you can be in it, So last year was Photo and Fashion themes, and hard work, versus us chatting about things we like, and achieved same word count in a couple days, verses a couple-three weeks!

Comics/Art multiple people with ideas/experiences…I see it could be spun into video/live format which could be awesome as I see numerous, famous folks….videos, which bore me to tears, final result awesome, but am looking for extreme editing, get to the point-Demos…and memorable sound bites to motivate viewers (Emmett TV) for my YouTube channel. Perhaps a guest per episodes, and any and all commenting.

So yes, doing a Black and White theme for this issue…to see if can lower the price…and then go with the format in pubication/mags…then spin in Videos

There a lot of TV channels on YouTube of you could even do podcasting

Don’t know any comic book gir Artists…yet. But eventually, get a couple to be on with us

Yes…I have seen traditional podcast….would do if they were 5-10-15 minut ones for sure! I was interviewed on one…as enjoyable, but too long.

I think longer the video…the easier to lose viewers if not extremely done well…On reading Youtube advice, they suggests MORE verses Less videos…I have to disagree. I watch my own and when I get tired after 5 or 6 with similar content, I know others will….I say 10 -20 well thought out Videos, and add Animation samples/clips to make it interesting.

Instead of tedious Stories…make the Process the Story, and do Samples expose audience to NEW characters, grow demand

Comic Art process, and Animation process..

THAT is somehing almost None of the famous Pencilers do.

I also came to conclusion tha WHEN succeed at launching a character/characters,,,,,never sell…the big companies will just buy you out of the game (Catch and kill) what I saw with Milestone..and even my own career, painting, is MOMENTUM will propel you to next level as long as you remain in charge.

I/We have waited 50 years to see the Panther…..and we gotta get our characters on the map ASAP, while the focus is on diversity.

I’m not the best inker, but I know thru animation tests, it’s simplicity and uniformity/consistancy of line weight that makes the toons watchable, but I do pretty good comibook art./paintings. Then again not many did their own Inking…..I play with coputer processes,…some more effective than others. time consuming tho.

Like if you watched Batman Animated…I would like something SLIGHTLY more realistic…less KIDDY….and less Violence, LOL…but have some edgy stories to introduce the characters….then tone down to ACTION.

dpartlow2

I think at its base it’s the characters and the ideas…how many times have we seen a movie or a character and said if this little tweak happened it would be amazing? Flesh these character out and get the ideas out in a way it’s appealing and easily accessible to the masses.

Yes! And also the viewers/readers are going to be invested in seeing the outcome….

dpartlow2

I think what’s created or produced now is a money grab first hence Marvel over doing the diversity…its like the old if you build it they will come.

Like I was almost 30 working 2 jobs…and saw Static Shock, and was like, damn…I wish I’d had seen something like this before I got old.

dpartlow2

…and when they come they’ll bring their money…but you want their ideas and what they like along with the money that’s what’s missing.

I did, must I had to make it…page by page LOL

dpartlow2

Static Shock was generations too late

Yeah, the whole thing is gonna be an experiment, and we have road maps to follow now…

dpartlow2

Static Shock would have been mind-blowing for us 35 – 40 years ago. ..but the youth of today Static Shock is not shocking!

Publishing process is draining, I am still tweeking…muSt have done enough right to continue….

Oh yeah, Imagine being born, and your first President of memory is BARACK and 1st Lady MICKEY O.

dpartlow2

Lol!!!!

EMMETT

What can a racist tell you you can’t be?

in America?

Oh hell..and that goes for young White kids too!

On that note, gonna go, TTYL!

dpartlow2

The difficulty in publishing is by design. Ideas aren’t new, creativity isn’t new the ability to view the ideas are new… new and controlled…TTYL.

I gotta check page count, and see profit margin etc. but looking to try it B/W at $7.00….Amazon willl have a minimum though. But we’ll see!
