Alex Weems is a young Baltimore, Maryland painter who has been studying art for over 15 year. The color-rich work pictured above ventures boldly into the cubist realm. Her “Cat on a Couch” is centered in the scene demanding attention, and the subject matter is well complimented by a dramatic well-balanced geometric scheme of complementary tones, drawing on a few orange hints in her browns which contrast well versus the blues. The kitten still holds it’s own in the scene. Weems ultimate goal is to become well-schooled in the art of oil painting.
